III. Community Engagement

Through its various sub programs on outdoor education, school and community focused programs, Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) is actively involved in generating awareness at the local level for wildlife conservation and at the same time initiates activities that promote conservation. Today, the local community has been accepted as stakeholders in the protection and conservation of protected areas including the buffer zone.

WCN's Community Engagement program also promotes the concept of alternative livelihood that supports the women from different backgrounds living in the bufferzone of protected areas. WCN has successfully enhanced the capacity and well- being of women through effective and sustainable livelihood program that has led to income generation and self sufficiency

Besides this, WCN has also worked in habitat improvement activities in its project areas and constructed waterholes in the migration route of elephants in eastern Nepal to minimize Human Wildlife Conflict.
