Open and green spaces are very important to human lives. Although its importance in cities, towns are more essential because urbanization usually occurs at the cost of these green spaces. WCN's program for Open green places therefore promotes such places of recreation in cities, towns and also in villages. WCN advocates for these spaces as they provide a multitude of benefits to human populations, and also provide sanctuaries and vital habitat for urban wildlife - for mammals, birds, insects and seeds to survive which in turn maintains natural balance and eco-system services.
WCN partners with different institutions public and private to promote Green spaces in different areas in developing small community and public parks, community gardens, urban and community forests and spaces where children can play.
WCN believes green open spaces provide the needed place of gathering for people –where people can build a sense of community and can significantly enhance the health and wellbeing of people living and working in urban areas. Open spaces also provides means of improving physical fitness, establishes nature connect reducing depression. It also offers environmental education opportunities- something WCN strongly believes in.
