1. Eco-Smart School Program

WCN always prioritizes environment education as one of its key strategic approach to promote organized and more sustainable natural resource management. Nepal Prakriti Pathshala launched its Eco-Smart School Certification Program in 2016 in 7 prominent schools of Nepal, namely Triyog High School, Ace School, John Dewey School, Sunrise High School, Shristi School, Creative Academy and Kastmandap Vidyalaya.

Eco smart school program is a 5-year 5-star certification program designed by Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) under Nepal Prakriti Pathshala (NPP). In order to be certified, the schools will participate in a set of hands-on environmental programs and year-round guidelines and curriculum assisted by a team of volunteers and WCN staff -that will help them become an environmentally conscious model schools. This program focuses on various aspects of being eco-friendly by: practicing waste and water management, implementing school gardens, becoming energy efficient. This is done through a carefully designed lesson plans by which the students get opportunities to hands on experience to practice sustainable lifestyles beyond text books. Primarily, the pedagogy focuses on outdoor education and hands on learning activities through which students can be actively engaged and learn in a fun way.

Eco-Smart School Program has served as a successful example for The Green School Program for the Government of Nepal. The Nepal Prakriti Pathshala Team were principal contributors to for developing the Green School Program subsequently developing the Green School Resource Handbook for Nepal.

Nepal Prakriti Pathshala is developing plans to start the Green School Program with 300 pilot model schools with the Government implementing the eco-smart principles.
