Local Curriculum on Environment launched in Chitwan

Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN)/ Nepal Prakriti Pathshala (NPP) along with Prakriti Pathshala Network Jhuwani Resource Centre, a teacher's network from Chitwan, launched a local curriculum on Environment Education for classes 4 and 5 and an informative poster on Trees on October 15th, 2012 in Ratna Nagar Municipality program hall, Chitwan amongst more than 80 participants including principles, presidents of School Management Committee, students and media persons. Along with this 36 students of 18 different schools, under the Jhuwani Resource Centre were given Scholarships along with School bags and sweaters. During the program all the eighteen schools were also provided with First aid kit. The Event was chaired by Mr. Rama Kanta Sharma, District Education Officer of Chitwan district and the Chief Guest was Mr. Kamal Pokharel, Director of Department of Education, Nepal. The local curriculum and the poster were launched by the Chief Guest. This local curriculum has been tested in 18 schools of Chitwan District and it covers 20 percent of their Social Studies syllabus. The welcome speech was given by Ms. Sanjeevani Y Shrestha, Program Manager WCN/NPP, following this Ms. Santoshi Giri, Field coordinator, explained the curriculum building process to date. In addition to this, Mr. Prasanna Yonzon, WCN's C.E.O; Ms. Rajya Laxmi Nakarmi, Deputy Director of Department of Education; Mr. Flemming Schested, Danish Forest Extension's Managing Director extended their best wishes for the success of this local curriculum and Mr. Ram Chandra Poudel, WCN Chitwan's Field Officer gave the vote of thanks.
