First Frog Symposium 2018

The First Frog Symposium 2018 was successfully conducted on October 9, 2018 at Yala Maya Kendra, Patan Dhoka, amidst young school students, college students, young scientists and experts. The symposium jointly organized by WCN and Rato Bangla Kitab was divided into two sessions. Session I began with the Inauguration of Photographic display on Frogs of Kathmandu Valley. During the first session Ms. Sanjeevani Y Shrestha, Director, WCN talked about Citizen Science and Awareness while Mr. Prakash Chandra Aryal, Board member, CARON, presented the results from the recently conducted second survey on Frogs of Kathmandu Valley. The survey was conducted in joint collaboration of WCN, CARON and Golden Gate International College. Also, the Surveyors of the Study were felicitated by certificates of appreciation. Present during the session were our eminent guests Mr. Top Bahadur Khatri, Wetland Expert, Mr. Kanak Mani Dixit , Author and Journalist, Dr. Man Kumar Dhamala, CDES, and Mr. Prasanna Yonzon, CEO, WCN.

Alongside, 90 children from different schools also participated in Children's Corner. The main aim of this corner was to generate awareness on the importance of Frogs and Toads. The students participated in Crafts, Quiz and also witnessed a movie and a photographic display.

Similarly, Session II started with a beautiful welcome performance by the students of Grade V B of Rato Bangala School followed by the Panel discussion. The Panelists were Mr. Prakash Chandra Aryal, Board member, CARON, Mr. Nabin G Baidya, Program Manager, WCN, Mr. Kanak Mani Dixit , Author and Journalist and Mr. Top Bahadur Khatri, Wetland Expert. The panel discussion which was moderated by Ms. Sanjeevani Y Shrestha, Director, WCN focussed on “Frogs: Friends of Ours- Their Status, importance and conservation”.
The one day Symposium ended with the Inauguration of “Frog Daraaj” by Dr. Tirtha B. Shrestha and our eminent experts and guests.
