Nepal Recovery Smart Program

On April 25, 2015 a major devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.8 RS struck Nepal and killed more than 8000 people injuring thousands. According to the Government of Nepal 35 out of 75 districts are affected. Also, this recent earthquake has damaged many heritage sites including public structures and infrastructures. On the time of crisis triggered by major

earthquake WCN launched WCN Recovery Smart Program (RSP). The program was initiated after receiving the approval from NGO governing Social Welfare Council.

This program was formed so as to contribute and rebuild the hard hit communities by the earthquake. To run the program effectively it was divided into two phases which are immediate relief and Long term preparedness rebuilding. In immediate relief program WCN provided essential materials like food supplies, medicine, maternity, baby products, stationery distribution, galvanized tin and temporary shelters materials and clean water in different places like Chetra Deurali of Dhading district and Laharepauwa and Gatlang of Rasuwa District. WCN also organized health camps and rubble cleaning campaign in Dhading and Rasuwa district

As for long-term preparedness rebuilding WCN has built temporary learning classes in Dhading and community centers in Rasuwa. Also under its long-term program WCN provided full scholarship to seven earthquake hard hit students for one year.
