Innovation in Education Fair (IEF) 2017

A 4 day Innovation in Education Fair (IEF) 2017 concluded on August 13, 2017 where about 28 different organizations and professionals from educational background engaged in making teaching and learning fun and interactive participated. 

This is the second edition of the fair where WCN also collaborated and exhibited its educational program. WCN/NPP conducted several events in the fair.

A. Interactive Exhibition:
WCN/Nepal Prakriti Pathshala put up an interactive exhibition booth on Waste Management and Zero Waste Program in Schools, a quest of Eco-smart Program. The exhibition featured different models on Waste Segregation, Vermi-Composting and Bin Composting. It also put up a garbage walk to sensitize people on different decomposition rates of different materials we produce as waste.

B. Panel Discussion: The first panel discussion of the fair was organized by WCN/NPP on localizing curricula which focussed on the vision of Local Curriculum in Nepal. The panel also discussed the challenges during the development and implementation of the local curriculum in the country. The speakers in the panel were Sita Ram Koirala, Senior Instructor - NCED, Sanjeevani Yonzon, Program Manager-WCN and Dhurba Lamichane-Resource Person of Dhunche, Rasuwa.
The panel also delved into the fact that Localizing School Curriculums allows learning to become more meaningful to students and teachers because it allows the local materials and knowledge to act as mediums of learning and expanding knowledge.

C. Pedagogy Workshop: Local Resources as education materials 
WCN NPP also organized a pedagogy workshop on local resources as education materials in collaboration with Shrijanalaya. The session helped participants explore diverse local resources and how they can become effective eucational materials in everyday classrooms. The workshop was conducted by Ritu Gurung , Nabin Gopal Baidya, Senior Nature Interpreters and Mohan Bikram Shrestha, Program Coordinator of NPP.

D. Pedagogy Workshop;Evaluation and Assessment of Interactive Education: This session focussed on how to use appropriate classrooms assessment strategies and techniques, and how can teachers increase their students motivation and lean learn what is working and what is not in the classroom. The Session was conducted by Sanjeevani Yonzon, Program Manager, WCN.

E. Hands on Learning Space: The team also conducted a workshop entitled make your own wall hangers from old newspapers , a hands on experience to be creative while thinking about waste.The sessionw as conducted by Krishna Shretha Thapa, Ujjabi and Sarita of Eco-Smart Team.

The IEF was organized by Quixote's Cove and supported by American Embassy and Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund 2016 and was in collaboration with Srijanalaya, Karkhana, WCN NPP and Canopy Nepal.
