An interactive teacher’s workshop on Teaching Methods on Local Curriculum, Chitwan
July 12, 2012

An interactive teacher’s workshop on Teaching Methods on Local Curriculum, Chitwan, was conducted on the July 9th and 10th, 2012. Ms. Achala Pokharel, O.L.E, Nepal was the resource person for training the teachers. The objective of the training was to introduce hands-on methods in teaching the contents of the new curriculum. During the training Ms. Achala introduced fun activities such as introducing yourself and mentioning a favourite form of nature with specific reasons, sharing one special memory- through this the trainer believes that sharing of memories will include sharing of new information to others present. She also handed out pamphlets to all the teachers present and asked them to number the given neccessities of a students life in school in order of its priority, the results were: Physiological needs, Safety, Belongingness and love, Esteem, Cognitive, Aesthetics and Self actualization.

The final activity included collecting an insect from the ground nearby along with its habitat, drawing the insect, describing the insect in a few words and finally presenting it to everyone. The objective behind this was to allow the participant to add fun while learning. She also mentioned that when students go and search for insects it will make them remember the insect and the habitat more than just learning about it in text books.

The second day mainly focussed on improvising the curriculum for its final launch. The teachers were divided into five groups and each group was given one chapter each of classes four and five. After scrutinizing the two chapters, each group had to mention challenges and weaknesses of the chapters and conduct it as a presentation. Along with this the teachers had to prepare a set of questions for each chapter for the preparation of the question bank. The teachers who participated in the workshop were also presented with certificates.
